“A gilded bronze seal from the 29th year of the Daoguang Emperor’s reign, with the inscription ‘大新古廟’ (Great New Ancient Temple) on the columnar handle. The sides of the bronze seal are engraved with ‘当年值事永源店…高明店’ (a list of ten shops including Yongyuan Store, Gaoming Store, etc.) and ‘同贺’ (Celebrating Together). The top of the cylindrical handle is carved with scroll lotus and bead patterns. The base of the seal bears a pattern possibly representing ‘The Jade Seal of the Emperor of the Radiant Heavenly Lights’. The seal measures 18 centimeters in total height, with the seal face being 9 centimeters square, and weighs over one kilogram. The year Daoguang 29 corresponds to 1849. This gilded seal, possibly older than the Daoguang period, may have been jointly purchased by merchants and then dedicated to the ancient temple.”
