0152-错金包银镔铁刀镡 Iron forged knife guard

This is a “copper-gold encased in silver, rimmed with iron” knife-dagger, featuring the distinctive “Dongxiang” gold overlay design. The dagger, shaped like a wine jar, depicts a scene where a crane spreads its wings as if to take flight on one side, while a small turtle lifts its leg to move forward on the other side. Above them, clouds gracefully drift by, and both the turtle and crane exhibit dynamic and vivid movements. The dagger’s sides are adorned with silver borders, while the interior is lined with gold, showcasing meticulous craftsmanship and a splendid, ingenious design. In intricate details, the imagery of the turtle and crane symbolizes longevity, reflecting the cultural significance of the Edo era or even earlier, with Dongxiang being a distinguished warrior family dating back to the 13th century in Japan, known for producing exceptional swords and artisans over the centuries.
