“A Qing dynasty hexagonal fishbowl imitating Japanese Imari porcelain, measuring 40 centimeters in width and approximately 60 centimeters in height (including the stand). Imari porcelain, which flourished during the late Ming dynasty, was renowned for its festive designs, rich color tones, and high-quality porcelain body, particularly favored by European royalty. Jingdezhen started producing similar pieces for export during the late Kangxi period. This large fishbowl, with a base inscribed ‘Imitation of Wanli’, features an unglazed sandy bottom. Its design, with gold and red hues, arabesque patterns, and folded branch flowers, exhibits a distinct East Asian flair. However, the details of the pattern and characteristics of the glaze predominantly reflect the mid-Qing dynasty Jingdezhen porcelain style. The inscription might indicate a private collection or museum marking. The original rosewood stand is exceptionally thick and exquisitely made, carved from a single piece of wood with neat and strong lines.”
