A Qing Dynasty hexagonal fishbowl imitating Japanese Imari porcelain, 40 cm wide and approximately 60 cm tall (including the stand). Japanese Imari porcelain, which flourished in the late Ming Dynasty, was once popular for its festive designs, colors, and high-quality porcelain body, especially favored by European royalty. Around the late Kangxi period, Jingdezhen began producing imitations for export. This large fishbowl is inscribed with “Imitation of Imari” on the bottom, featuring an unglazed sandy base. The design incorporates gold and red tones, arabesque patterns, and folded branch flowers, fully reflecting the East Asian aesthetic. However, the detail of the patterns and the characteristics of the body and glaze more closely resemble the mid-Qing Dynasty Jingdezhen porcelain. The inscription on the bottom may indicate private collection or museum ownership. The original rosewood stand is exceptionally heavy and exquisitely crafted, carved from a single piece of wood with neat and strong lines.
