“A bronze Taotie mask-handled jar, standing 15 centimeters tall and weighing approximately 1000 grams, heavy in hand. The upper part of the belly features two bands of string patterns, with the area between adorned with a key-fret design. Above the key-fret are cast flying phoenix patterns. On each side are prominent Taotie masks, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship with neatly arranged and vigorous patterns. Previously owned by a Western collector and long used as a flower vase, both the interior and exterior surfaces show mottled rust. However, areas frequently touched reveal the fine quality of the bronze. Overall, this piece appears to be an 18th-century antique, a refined and elegant floral vessel for a scholar’s desk.”
